At thumpers garden THE RABBITRY

Our bunnies live in outside hutches ranging in size from 4x2x2 to 8x3x3, we are hopeing to have a large shed to house all our hutches but we are holding out as we will be moving soon.

We also have 5 runs and an enclosed area for excercising our buns although the enclosed area is never used as i tend to let the buns have run of the garden, i will be putting the enclosed area back in to use as my buns ( and the rain) have destroyed the garden and it now looks like a mud swamp, hopefully with some grass seed and a rest from destructive bunnies we might see some grass in the garden this summer!! : )

PICTURES ARE OF OUR OLD SET UP, WE NO LONGER HAVE THE HUTCH AND RUN COMBOS AND WE ARE SLIGHTLY MORE ORGANISED NOW, BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY : ) AND WILL HAVE SOME PICS OF OUR NEWER SET UP SOON.

We feed our bunnies on allen & page pellets, redi grass and our bunnies always have lots of fresh hay available to them plus lots of grass (before they ate it all : ) , plants, veg and herbs to nibble on.

We do give our buns fresh veg but rarely give them fruit, they have it only as a very occasional treat as it is high in sugar. ( sugar is NOT good for bunnies )

We handle all our bunnies including the babies every day and check them over for health, this is very important to make sure they are socialised properly especially with the large breeds.

Our does always have a long rest periods between litters and only breed when we are completely happy they are in full health and of good temperment, this goes for the boys too.

The new mums are happy to let me handle their kits from birth, although i don't like to until they are around 7 days old except to check for feeding and general health.

All bunnies are given a full health check before they leave us and i will refuse to let any of our babys leave us before 9 weeks of age so please do not ask.

Some breeders and pet shops will sell baby rabbits at around 8 weeks, personally i like to wait until 10 weeks at least, this helps to prevent against possible life threatening digestive problems which can occur during stress and if a baby bun is seperated from his mum/litter too early, the older the bunny is the less chance there is of this happening, obviously every bunny is different and some will be ready sooner than others.

We advise everyone to never take home a bunny under 8 weeks of age and if possible leave it until after 10 weeks when you know their is less chance of your rabbit developing problems.

All our baby bunnies will have had probiotics to help protect against tummy problems and you will receive probiotics in your bunny care pack to give at home.
